THE LEGEND OF THE KING’S WELL

The legend of King’s Well dates back to the Nguyen dynasty, during a time when King Gia Long and his troops were hiding from Tay Son in Ong Doi Cape where Premier Village Phu Quoc Resort located these days, with no fresh water nor food. When the King stabbed his sword to the ground and prayed, “If I am destined to be a king, please save my soldiers”, a spring miraculously welled up from underground.

Ever since, local fishermen have been getting water from this well before they sail the ocean, and always come back with sumptuous seafood. Locals later built a temple at the site that became known as the King’s Well.

THE MOST MYSTERIOUS THING

King’s Well is a source of underground fresh water. Even if sea water overflows close to the well, the water inside the well is not salty or brackish; rather, it is pure and sweet. Even though it is a small geyser, the well will never run dry, no matter how much water is taken away. When visitors come here, they all burn incense and pray, then drink the fresh water in the King’s Well in the belief that it will bring them good luck and health.

HOW TO GO THE KING’S WELL PHU QUOC

Because it is located in the heart of Premier Village Phu Quoc Resort, guests staying here can take a guided hike to the temple to learn more about the legend and enjoy the tranquil wilderness along the way. Other tourists can go to Bai Kem beach and rent a motorboat to get there.

Furthermore, this area preserves many legends about the Nguyen Dynasty, such as the King’s footprints, which have passed and are still imprinted on the stone. The King’s throne faces the sea, and there is also a small temple dedicated to Gia Long King.
